Easy Website Design Pitfalls

The days of the Notepad as the main HTML programming tool may be numbered, what with all the promising and advanced HTML editing software around. It seems only hardcore programmers take it to the line per line level now, and most webmasters turn to easy website design programs to do their work. But there are dangers to using these too, especially if you’re new to them.

One such danger is getting tempted to add all the advanced and flashy elements you can oh-so-easily drag and drop in place. Sure, it is easy design, but after doing that, consider what your visitors will see. They drop by your website for specific information or services, not to see your webmaster making a show. Imagine them trying to read some web content but some flashy elements keep getting in their eye. They become annoying, not impressive. Not to mention they scream ‘amateur.’ And indeed, only amateurs would be lured to use such elements without considering the need for them first.

The ease of adding animation and sounds are similar pitfalls of so-called easy website design. And for mostly the same reasons. Furthermore, adding too much of these elements in a website would cause it to eat up too much bandwidth, making it load slowly. Most visitors wouldn’t wait more than five seconds for a page to load before doing the shrug-and-‘never mind’ routine then going elsewhere.

Website design applications also make you tend to leave the details to be sorted out by the programs themselves whereas you should be sorting them out. If you’ve seen professionals using these kinds of software you’d probably notice them pulling out the line per line version and tweaking a bit here and there. That’s just how it is. Some details are so minute that line per line editing is the only acceptable way of going about them.

All in all you can probably say one general thing about the pitfalls of easy website design applications: they can easily make you design sites for your own benefit and satisfaction instead of for your visitors’. Make sure you don’t fall into this trap when you use these programs.
