How to Build a Website

The steps required to build a website, in and of themselves are really very basic.... you need

A domain name - the portion in http://www.domainname.com after the http://www.
Website Hosting
Tools to build your web pages and move them to the website hosting server

These items are available in packages, or separately at a variety of places.... you know, just do a search on the web..... you will be inundated with hosting companies, website hosting companies, and a huge list of website tools.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself though, don't just jump in before you really plan what you are going to create your website about.... you need to build a website based on a topic that you are passionate about.... one that you will want to write about.... but before we delve into that topic, here is an explanation of the four things that I mentioned above.

A domain name

One of the first things needed when you build a website is a domain name. The domain name names your website. Your domain name should closely match the theme of your website.....

Website domain names must be purchased from domain registrars. The World's largest registrar is Godaddy.com. Godaddy.com and other registrars allow you to search on available names on a variety of domains (.com, .org, .mobi, .info, .net, .me, .us for instance).

Website Hosting

Website Hosting is essentially the space on an internet facing server that you purchase to store your website pages. Website pages must be on a server that is visible to the internet so that user of the internet can find them. Normally, you will choose a full service website hosting company like TCM Computer Technologies, or an integrated web hosting company like Godaddy.com, or 1and1.com which will offer hosting along with the purchase of a domain name.

A full service website hosting company like TCM Computer Technologies will gather information for you, set-up your hosting, manage al of your files for you (with the option of an FTP account for you to upload your own files), adn bill you for hosting.

Self Service Web Hosting Companies like Godaddy.com, have everything set up automatically so that you can set up everything on your own.

The choice is up to you.... depending on the amount of time you have to spend on your website project.

Tools to Build your Website Pages

Once you have your domain name, and your hosting all decided and managed, you will then need to start building your website. When I initially think of 'How to Build A Website', this is the first portion that comes to mind....

Keyword Decision Tool - Google Keyword Tool - This tool allows you to enter a keyword or keyword phrase and then the tool searches for related keywords.
